Caribbean Airlines has started the planning process to serve London, Gatwick with non-stop flights from Trinidad, Piarco International Airport, along with one-stop services via other Caribbean islands.
On a recent visit to London led by Caribbean Airlines Acting CEO Robert Corbie and other airline executives, the Caribbean Airlines delegation focused on laying the foundation for the start up of its operations, including the selection of Airport Gates and Club Lounge at Gatwick Airport, which is located 3.1 miles north of the centre of Crawley, West Sussex, and 28.4 miles south of Central London. The four-day schedule of stakeholder meetings was held with Slot Coordinators, Airport Operations teams, Travel Agents and other key industry partners. A courtesy visit was also paid to the British High Commissioner for Trinidad & Tobago, His Excellency Garvin Nicholas.
Caribbean Airlines Acting CEO Robert Corbie was quoted as saying, “We are extremely happy to announce that the slots have been retained at Gatwick Airport London, which is the UK’s second largest airport and the busiest single-runway airport in the world. Our flights to London will provide a vital economic link which we hope to start mid June pending all regulatory approvals have been received, and we are especially grateful for the support given by the Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Guy Stephenson at Gatwick”.
Caribbean Airlines plans to operate the London route with two (2) B767-300ERs with state of the art cabins, which include in-seat power and video and flatbed Business Class seats. Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robert Corbie said “We are well positioned strategically to become the preferred airline for all customers flying between the Caribbean and London”.
Gatwick serves more than 200 destinations (more than any other UK airport) in 90 countries for around 33 million passengers a year on short- and long-haul point-to-point services. The airport is 28 miles south of London with excellent public transport links, including the award winning Gatwick Express. Seats will be available soon especially in time for the Olympics.
